Have you heard of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA)? They are a government agency who provide compensation fees ranging from £1,000 to £500,000 to victims of violent crimes that have occurred in England, Scotland and Wales. But how can you submit a claim?
Here at St Helens Law, we use almost 20 years of law industry experience to submit the best possible CICA claim on your behalf. We are accredited by the Law Society Lexcel and the Law Society in Conveyancing Quality. Our team of solicitors work tirelessly to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve for your physical or mental injuries.
How do St Helens submit your CICA claim?
CICA handle up to 40,000 claims every year. We have submitted many Criminal Injury Claims in St Helens. Our expertise allows us to make sure your application is dealt with as fairly and sensitively as possible.
To be eligible to claim the crime must have taken place in Great Britain and must have been reported to the police. Claims can be submitted up to two years from when you inform the police about the incident.
To get your claim underway, first you can visit our town centre office to discuss the matter with a member of our team. Booking an appointment is not always necessary and your first meeting, that takes around half an hour, is always free of charge. If you are not available for a meeting you can call us on 01744 742360. Alternatively, you can get in touch via email.
Once your claim has been submitted you can track its progress with your own FileView account. We will provide you with login details and a password. As well as this you will also be provided with the direct contact number and e-mail address of the St Helens Law solicitor who is handling your application.
What injuries can I claim compensation for through CICA?
Applications through CICA will be considered if you have been a victim of or received injuries due to the following:
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Loss of earnings because of your injuries
- A fatality caused by violent crime, which is inclusive of:
- Bereavement payments
- Payments for loss of parental services
- Financial dependency
- Funeral payments
What fee can you expect to receive?
The fee you receive depends on the level and amount of injuries you receive. This is determined by the authority’s tariff of injuries. If you have more than one injury that on their own would qualify for a claim, you could be entitled to:
- 100% of the full tariff value of the most serious injury and then;
- 30% of the amount for the second most valuable injury and a further 15% for a third injury.
CICA will pay compensation for a maximum of three injuries.
St Helens Law do not charge a fee for unsuccessful claims. However, if it is successful, we charge a Contingency Fee of 25% of the figure you are awarded.
